All-Star Charity Comedy Night Announced To Raise Money & Remember Phil Jerrod

Cancer charity Sarcoma UK has announced an evening of comedy in memory of Brighton-based comedian Phil Jerrod.

On Tuesday 3rd October, a host of Britain’s brightest and best comedians including Jack Dee, Adam Hills, Romesh Ranganathan, and Sarcoma UK celebrity ambassador Angela Barnes will take to the stage for ‘An Evening of Comedy’ in honour of their friend, and to raise much-needed funds for the charity.

The special one-off gig at the Brighton Dome will mark two years since Phil died of spindle sell sarcoma, a less common cancer which affects the soft tissues in the body. There are an average of 173 cases of spindle cell sarcoma diagnosed every year in England, and the critically acclaimed comic was just 42 years old when he died with his wife, Beck, by his side.

‘An Evening of Comedy’ also features Suzi Ruffell and Jason Patterson, and all profits from the gig will help to continue Sarcoma UK’s life-changing work to ensure that everyone affected by sarcoma can access the treatment, care, and support they need.

Speaking about the upcoming gig, Sarcoma UK celebrity ambassador and Brighton-based comedian Angela Barnes, said: Phil was one of my best friends. He was one of the most loving, funny, and creative people I’ve ever known, and life isn’t the same without him. I’d never heard of sarcoma cancer until Phil was diagnosed and I’m honoured to be a Sarcoma UK ambassador. At last year’s concert, we raised over £27,000 in Phil’s memory, and I hope we can continue raising funds to honour his legacy.”

Kerry Reeves-KneipDirector of Fundraising and Communications at Sarcoma UK, said:We would like to say a huge thank you to our ambassador Angela Barnes and all the brilliant comics taking part in this star-studded gig. There are around 5,300 people diagnosed with sarcoma cancer each year in the UK and Sarcoma UK relies solely on generous voluntary donations, and the energy and imagination of tireless fundraisers and supporters. Their efforts will help us to honour Phil’s legacy and improve outcomes for people living with this less common cancer.”

Comedian and writer Phil Jerrod is celebrated for his award-winning contributions to British comedy. A successful writer for radio and TV shows The Now ShowThe News Quiz and Mock The Week, Phil was also a talented stand-up who supported stars including Nish Kumar, Seann Walsh and Romesh Ranganathan. In 2022, he was posthumously named ‘Comedian’s Comedian’ at the Chortle Awards.
