Comedians Bridget Christie and Stewart Lee have split. Chortle has reported that Lee's publicist sent them the following unsolicited statement.
"Stewart Lee confirmed today that he and his wife, comedian Bridget Christie amicably parted and have been living separately since September 2021. Married in 2006, the couple remain friends and continue co-parenting."
Lee and Christie have both had hugely successful careers. In recent years Lee has toured extensively and fronted documentaries about subjects including punk band The Nightingales and the surrealist movement in Birmingham
Christie's profile has risen recently following the broadcast of her acclaimed C4 sitcom The Change, about a menopausal woman's voyage of discovery. It has been favourably compared to Detectorists and Shirley Valentine.
In The Change the feckless husband of Christie's character is played by Omid Djalili, but there is no suggestion that Djalili's character is based on Lee. Although interestingly the climax of the series involves an Eel Festival. Eel, of course, is Lee backwards.
Christie has not commented on their separation in promotional interviews for The Change including an interview out this week with Lee's double act partner Richard Herring for Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast.
