Acclaimed BBC Radio 4 comedy The Skewer now has a screen version.
After three years on air and winning Gold for Best Comedy at the Radio Academy ARIA Awards three years running, Jon Holmes’s satirical Radio 4 comedy is making its first ever screen appearance. As Series 10 arrives on Radio 4, The Skewer: Three Twisted Years is an experimental short film that revisits some of the key political and news moments from the last three years with a unique visual interpretation of the show’s critically acclaimed sharp, nightmarish style.
Since its first appearance on the airwaves in 2020, The Skewer’s unique approach to satirising news and popular culture has won it a dedicated fanbase – as well as a raft of awards, most recently including Gold in the comedy category at this year’s British Podcast Awards where it was also runner-up for Podcast of the Year.
Julia McKenzie, Commissioning Editor for Comedy and Entertainment at BBC Radio 4 said “The Skewer is a deserved winner of a remarkable number of awards and critical acclaim, and as you’d expect the visualisation is equally bold, distinctive and mesmerising. I can’t wait for existing fans to take a look as well as a brand new audience discovering this highly creative and innovative podcast.”
