Edinburgh Comedy Awards Best Show nominee Jessica Fostekew’s critically-acclaimed stand-up hour ‘Wench’ is set to be released as a special on 26th January 2024.
Produced and distributed by 800 Pound Gorilla Media, the special will be available to watch on their website as part of a “name your own price” offer, followed by their YouTube Channel on 27th February.
In her new stand-up special ‘Wench’ Jessica is in the midst of a mid-life metamorphosis. Having left a 10-year relationship and redefined her sexuality, she is now on a mission to embrace her new life as a queer Mum. Her foray into the world of online dating brings its own unique challenges, but is short-lived when she finds love and begins to navigate a blended family, bringing together her young son and her partner’s equally important cats.
Jess handles her first tastes of homophobia with her trademark lack of emotional decorum. And Jess questions the boundaries between a Wench and Bimbo, while she’s there works out the best place to land herself between the two as a feminist. Prepare for a poignant and side-splitting hour of promiscuity, privilege and pubes.
Jessica Fostekew is a stand-up comedian, actor and writer. A frequent fixture on our TV’s, Jessica has appeared on flagship shows such as Live At The Apollo (BBC TWO), QI (BBC One), and Motherland (BBC One).
She also performed in the current hit feature film Scrapper. She is a regular co-host on The Guilty Feminist podcast, the host and creator of the HOOVERING podcast, as well as a regular guest on BBC Radio 4's News Quiz and the Now Show.
Her own BBC Radio 4 series Sturdy Girls Club met rave reviews and has been commissioned for a double-length second series. Jessica was nominated for the Dave Edinburgh Comedy Awards Best Show in 2019 for her show ‘Hench’, which went on to become an Amazon Prime Special and win Best Show and Best Act in the 2020 Chortle Awards.
