Comedian Allan Finnegan, who wowed TV viewers and judges with his appearance on Britain's Got Talent, has set up a gofundme page to raise money for vital cancer treatment.
Finnegan explains: "I’m fundraising for life saving cancer treatment not available on the NHS. I was diagnosed with ocular melanoma 2 years ago and was treated successfully but unfortunately it has now metastasised into my liver and is incurable. I’ve been given 12 months but could extend this by receiving Chemosaturation Therapy, directly to the liver (Delcath). This would give me some valuable time with my family, friends and new 3 month old grandson, Albie. The treatment costs £50,000 per dose and I’ve been advised that I’ll need at least 3. Thank you so much for taking time to read this. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Be blessed Allan."
Finnegan was in the semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent in 2020 and as well as being a stand-up comedian is a baptist minister - he came onstage backed by organ music.
David Walliams was a fan and said: "I loved the jokes that were really about what you do", however fellow judge Alesha Dixon said: '"For me tonight it just felt a little bit under-par...you had some good moments, and then about halfway through you just lost me".
A number of comedians have had treatment for cancer in recent years. Rhod Gilbert has recently started gigging again following treatment for head and neck cancer. And Tim Key talked about being diagnosed here. Following a gig on his tour Key's agent was contacted by a fan who was in the audience and also a doctor. Key had been performing in shorts and the keen-eyed medical expert had spotted what looked like a lesion on his leg. He suggested that Key get it checked out. He took the advice and the specialist said he needed to have it cut out as quickly as possible.
After the gofundme page appeared Finnegan posted his thanks on Facebook: "As a family we are completely blown away by the love and support we have received from you all over the past few weeks. Particularly since setting up our Go fund me page today. You have all been so kind and generous at a time when money is tight for everyone. We are so emotionally overwhelmed, humbled and blessed by your kindness. I am struggling to thank you all individually but will hopefully do so soon. Massive apologies if you don’t receive a personal thanks you, as there’s just so many. Thank you all for you love towards us as a family. Allan."
At the time of writing the fund has raised £21,155 of the £50,000 target.
