What do your parents/children (delete as applicable) think of your job?
My kids absolutely love that I do this job. One of the best days ever was giving a career talk to my daughter’s class alongside a dentist. I was a hero. However, the dentist will have a pension.
What’s the worst thing about being a comedian?
It can be a very lonely job sometimes with travelling and hotels. And the groupies are relentless.
I think you are very good at what you do (that’s why I’m asking these questions). What do you think of you?
I think I am good at this job but I can always be better. I always watch other comics and there are some in this country that inspire me every time I watch them.
How much do you earn and how much would you like to earn?
I earn enough to go on holiday twice a year but not enough that we don’t need to go by EasyJet.
How important is luck in terms of career success – have you had lucky breaks?
Every single entertainment industry is based on luck. Anyone who says different is a liar. I have been very fortunate.
Alan Davies has said that comedians fall into two categories - golfers and self-harmers. The former just get on with life, the latter are tortured artists. Which are you – or do you think you fit into third category?
I wouldn’t say I was a tortured artist but I don’t just happily get on with life either. I think being a comedian, a real comedian, takes a certain type of person. We all have a huge amount wrong with us or else we wouldn’t do it. It is a ridiculous job.
Who is your favourite person ever and why – not including family or friends or other comedians?
Steven Spielberg for making Jaws
Do you keep your drawers tidy and if not why not? (please think long and hard about this question, it's to settle an argument with my girlfriend. The future of our relationship could depend on your response).
My drawers will be messy for weeks which will stress me beyond belief. I will then spend a day tidying them. They will stay like this for a month and then the whole cycle happens again.
