Piers Morgan's interview with Fiona Harvey has sent the online chat forums and social media into a frenzy. Harvey is the woman who is said to be the inspiration for stalker Martha in Richard Gadd's global Netflix hit Baby Reindeer.
In the interview with Morgan for his YouTube channel Harvey denied the allegations that she bombarded Gadd with letters, voice messages and 41,000 emails. Morgan continually pressed Harvey, particularly about the emails, saying that if she had sent them they could be traced. He also asked her if she would take a lie detector test.
Harvey bore an uncanny resemblance to the Martha character in Baby Reindeer played by Jessica Gunning, although Harvey said that they had different Scottish accents.
She did acknowledge that she had met Gadd and that the title Baby Reindeer did come from a conversation they had.
She maintained that she had not seen the drama, although, as many people pointed out online, she seemed to know a lot about it.
She said that she did not heckle Gadd when he was perfoming his stand-up routine in a comedy club - in the drama aspiring comedian Donny, played by Gadd, is interrupted by Martha who is in the audience.
At times she seemed oddly vague. Despite saying she had a photographic memory she seemed unable to say what specific result she got in her law degree from Aberdeen University.
Comments on the YouTube page from viewers suggested that many were not won over by her performamce:
Many commented on her resemblance to Martha in Baby Reindeer. Stanman742 wrote: "If the actress who played Martha doesn’t win the Emmy I’m rioting, she nailed it."
She repeatedly denied stalking Gadd in real life; calling him 'psychotic' and a 'liar'.
@Worstisstilltocme paraphrased the exchange about her law degree:
"Fiona - "i've got a photographic memory"
Piers - " what grades did you get" Fiona - "i cant remember"
@laurahacking1986 had an interesting take on the interview: "She's not lying, she's 100% believing her own lies. This is classic narcissism, they believe their own bullshit. Its actually incredibly fustrating."
