The nine finalists for the LGBTQ+ New Comedian of the Year 2024 have been unveiled. James Danielewski, JR, Maple Zuo, Fab Goualin, Sallyann Fellows, Caitlin Powell, Kate Sharp, Marty Gleeson and Ciara O’Connor will all take to the stage on June 11th, at the Clapham Grand for an expanded multi-camera filmed live show.
Past winner Victoria Olsina will be headlining with Jordan Gray acting as host and celebrity panelist alongside: returner Zoe Lyons, BBC regular, Jen Brister (Live at the Apollo), legendary queen maker, Jonny Woo, and TikTok sensation, Daniel Foxx. The panel will face the unenviable task of selecting just one of the nine of the funniest acts on the LGBTQ+ comedy scene right now.
Chris Smith, founder of Comedy Bloomers explained: “2024’s competition has been one hell of a ride! We have scoured the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland to find the very best LGBTQ+ comedic talent. We began with 93 acts and have whittled these down to just nine. Our lineup for the final is dominated by non-male gay acts and on June 11th our finalists will battle it out to see who can claim the title of the UK’s funniest gay!”
“Now in its third year, Comedy Bloomers’ New LGBTQ+ Comedian of the Year competition has gone from strength to strength and the caliber of talent involved in this year’s competition, as well as the judges who will be joining us, is a testament to that.
“So much of what we do is provide a platform for new and emerging LGBTQ+ talent, enabling them to hone their craft before a captive audience and it’s hugely empowering for everyone involved to see them rise to the challenge. Of course, being asked to showcase their skills before some of the most talented comedians on the planet is not for the faint-hearted, but I know they will deliver the goods; the judges are in for a real treat!”
