More Dates and More Cast News For Dr Strangelove

Steve Coogan will be joined by Olivier Award-winning Giles Terera in the World Premiere stage production of Stanley Kubrick’s timeless classic Dr. Strangelove, which begins performances at the Noël Coward Theatre in London’s West End on Tuesday 8 October 2024.

Due to phenomenal demand, the London season has been extended by 5 weeks. Performances at the Noël Coward Theatre will now finish on Saturday 25 January 2025 before a limited engagement at Dublin’s Bord Gáis Energy Theatre from Wednesday 5 – Saturday 22 February 2025. Over 20% of the tickets for the run at the Noël Coward are priced at £35 or under, around 23,500 tickets in total.

Giles Terera will play the role of General Buck Turgidson. Further casting is yet to be announced.

This jet-black comedy masterpiece, about a rogue U.S. General who triggers a nuclear crisis, is brought to the stage by acclaimed BAFTA and Emmy Award winner Armando Iannucci and Olivier Award winner Sean Foley in an explosively funny satire of mutually assured destruction. Sean Foley will also direct.

Giles Terera said: “Part of the excitement of doing this project was getting to work with really great people; and the gentlemen who are putting this particular project together operate at the highest level – in terms of their craft of storytelling, comedy, satire and telling really entertaining stories about really consequential subject matters in an entertaining and humorous way.”

Steve Coogan said: “The idea of putting Dr Strangelove on stage is daunting. A huge responsibility. It’s also an exciting challenge, an opportunity to bring this timeless classic to a new audience. Knowing that I will be part of a creative team led by Sean Foley and Armando Iannucci means I will be working with the best people. Sean is a master of stage comedy and Armando and I started working with each other over 30 years ago. We made some memorable comedy together so it’s great to be collaborating with him once again.

Sean Foley said: “I’m thrilled that Giles Terera will be playing General ‘Buck’ Turgidson in our production of Dr Strangelove. An Olivier Award winner for Hamilton, and Nominee for Clyde’s at the Donmar, Giles was also in the original casts of Avenue Q and The Book of Mormon - he is a truly amazing actor who combines dramatic heft, musicality, and superb comedic flair. His extraordinary skills are perfect for Stanley Kubrick’s ’nightmare comedy’, and I’m excited and delighted that we will be working together for the first time on this serious yet hilarious show.”

Giles Terera won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his role as Aaron Burr in the original cast of the London production of the musical Hamilton in 2018.

Terera’s film and TV work includes Death of England: Delroy, Maxx, Flack, The Current War, London Boulevard and Horrible Histories.

Joining Armando Iannucci (Co-adaptor) and Sean Foley (Co-adaptor and Director) on the creative team are Hildegard Bechtler (Set and Costume Designer), Jessica Hung Han Yun (Lighting Designer), Ben & Max Ringham (Sound Designer and Composer), Akhila Krishnan (Projection Designer), Amy Ball CDG (Casting Director), Chris Hay (Production Manager), Dewi Johnson (Associate Director) Laura Hunt (Associate Costume Designer & Costume Supervisor), Lucy Adams (Associate Lighting Designer), Arthur Carrington (Casting Associate), Sam Clarkson for Sound Quiet Time (Sound System Designer), Kate Elizabeth (Wigs & Make Up Supervisor) and Chris Marcus and Jonathan Hall for Marcus Hall Props (Props Supervisor).
