BBC Radio 4 has ordered a new four-part stand-up comedy show from Ashley Blaker called Ashley Blaker’s Hyperfixations.
The comedian’s previous BBC shows include two series of his family comedy Ashley Blaker: 6.5 Children. The new series of four half hours is Blaker’s first to originate in the primetime 6.30pm comedy slot.
In early 2023, Ashley Blaker was diagnosed with autism and ADHD. One of the most significant aspects of his ASD diagnosis is his propensity for hyperfixation and special interests, which he now realises has entirely shaped his past. In this series, Ashley takes a comedic look at each of his obsessions in turn, merging personal memoir with an in depth comedic delve into subjects which have yet to be covered in stand-up comedy shows, including professional wrestling, 17th Century history, Orthodox Judaism and tattoos.
Ashley Blaker’s Hyperfixations will be produced by Steve Doherty for Giddy Goat Productions and will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and available on BBC Sounds in the summer of 2025.
Said Ashley Blaker: ‘I am absolutely delighted to be bringing a new series to Radio 4 and very appreciative of the network’s trust in me. I am looking forward to sharing some of my many passions with listeners. Thankfully, I have had so many hyperfixations, this series could run for years!’
Steve Doherty added: “I’ve known Ashley for a long time and have always been amazed by his endless capacity to become fixated with stories, characters ... almost anything. He’s one of the funniest people I know and I can’t wait till he spins his fascinations into jokes.”
