My parents are blindly supportive. They don’t really understand it. Some days they think I work in a circus and other days they think I’m a stand up.
I find the self-promotion part of it really hard. Selling shows so often seems to be about selling yourself and it’s quite at odds with my personality. I’m quite a private person and I try my best to have a life outside of comedy.
I think you are very good at what you do (that’s why I’m asking these questions). What do you think of you?
I don’t think I’m very good yet but I do think I’m very brave and determined. And probably delusional. Someone should have stopped me going on stage years ago. I’m still waiting for that intervention.
Not much! I’d love to earn something - enough to keep me in Greggs chicken bakes, at least. Are you offering?
I’ve had some! Mostly, it’s come from being in the right place and the right time. Generally, I try to stick to my own version of success and just concentrate on making shows I would want to see.
Alan Davies has said that comedians fall into two categories - golfers and self-harmers. The former just get on with life, the latter are tortured artists. Which are you – or do you think you fit into third category?
I’d say I’m the tortured artist - but perhaps without the genius bit!
Marina Abramović is the best comedian in the world.
My drawers are so far from organised I can barely remember what clothes I have. I wear the same three things because I daren’t open the drawers and launch into those murky depths.
