Comedian Rhod Gilbert has been awarded a BAFTACymruAward for Presenter - Gilbert fronted the moving documentary about his cancer treatment, Rhod Gilbert: A Pain in the Neck.
The Welsh stand-up had to postpone his tour when he was diagnosed with head and neck cancer. He was treated at the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff, where he was a patron and had done a number of charity events for them. In fact he became ill on a fundraising trip to Cuba: "So imagine my surprise when I was diagnosed with cancer... because I thought I'd have lifelong immunity!"
Gilbert's wife Sian Harries posted on X after the award was announced: "When Rhod started filming this doc (just on his phone to begin with) after he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, I thought he was mad as we had quite enough going on. Then I saw how focussing on informing others was helping him get through it & now I’m so, so proud of him."
Gilbert is now back on the road and touring with his Rhod Gilbert and the Giant Grapefruit show. Buy tickets here.
