A nice bit of good timing on Richard Osman's House of Games this week. One of the guests, alongside Chris Bisson, Danielle Harold and Katharine Merry is comedian, actor, writer Robert Webb.
I hadn't heard anything about Robert Webb in a while, apart from seeing him in a straight acting role in the drama Whitstable Pearl, but last week, out of the blue, it was announced that he is reuniting with David Mitchell to make a new sketch show.
Mitchell and Webb's previous sketch shows have been made for the BBC but this one has Channel 4 behind it - the channel which, of course, made their memorable sitcom Peep Show..
The sketch show is also notable because Webb and Mitchell will be teaming up with a host of great young performers and writers. Some you might know, some are well-established on the comedy circuit and online but not household names just yet.
The new Mitchell and Webb team will feature Kiell Smith-Bynoe who people will know from Ghosts and Stath Lets Flats, Lara Ricote, Stevie Martin, and Krystal Evans.
Anyway there's that to look forward but in the meantime he's on Richard Osman's House of Games this week where he is up against actor Chris Bisson who plays Vikram Desai in Coronation Street, Danielle Harold (who is best known as Lola Pearce in the BBC soap opera EastEnders and former English Olympic sprinter Katharine Merry.
Mitchell and Webb said of their new project: "When Channel 4 asked us to do another sketch show we were startled, bemused and available. It’s a perilous time for the industry and so it’s our hope that relaunching the trickiest genre of comedy is a brilliant piece of counterintuitive commissioning."
