It's a Champions Week for Richard Osman's House of Games this week, with four previous winners competing with each other to see who can be top dog. The smart quartet is comedian Rhys James, Sunday Brunch chef Simon Rimmer and presenters Edith Bowman and Anita Rani.
Comedy fans will know Rhys Games for his quickfire stand-up gags on the late lamented showcase Mock The Week. It has recently been announced that James is writing his first book. You’ll Like It When You Get There has been described by the publishers Wildfire as a “hilarious guide to life from someone who doesn’t want to do anything, and an exploration of why you possibly shouldn’t either”.
The synopsis states: “Follow Rhys as he avoids not just social engagements, but big life milestones, like getting married and having children.”
Comedians always do well on Richard Osman's House of Games – fellow Mock The Week star Angela Barnes was the first contestant ever to win all five shows when she took part – so it is no surprzse James won his week, although he was up against another comedian, Isy Suttie.
James, who is well known for being clever, is also a devoted Tottenham Hotspur supporter. In his Edinburgh show Snitch he talked about growing up and moving into his first flat with his girlfriend. The Evening Standard said: "crowd-pleasing relatable entertainment rarely comes any sharper."
As well as Mock The Week he has also appeared on Roast Battle, Comedy Central at the Comedy Store, Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central (Comedy Central), The News Quiz (Radio 4) and had his own 30 minute Comedy Central special as part of Soho Theatre Live. His first Radio 4 series, Rhys James is…was met with great praise.
