Alexander Bennett is releasing his last but one stand-up show online. I Can't Stand The Man, Myself will be available on YouTube from 15th March at 2pm.
Do you hate yourself? Multi-award nominee (Chortle, Leicester Comedy Festival) Alexander Bennett (Born Yesterday, Mark Watson’s Comedy Marathon) does. It’s both incredibly destructive and – fortunately for you – entertaining.
In ‘I Can’t Stand The Man, Myself’ Alexander is now trying to be more sympathetic to the man in the mirror by appraising his past, his body, his mistakes, his achievements, the limits of men’s clothing, queerness, online culture, the rental market and Robbie Williams. After acclaimed runs at the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe and the Soho Theatre in 2024, the full show is now coming to YouTube.
This is a show about masculinity, self-esteem, identity, how those things intersect, how they affect men and how those men affect the world, all explored from a personal perspective.
Join Alexander as he challenges his inner critic, tries to kill it, then comes for yours. The show is dedicated to Gareth Ellis, who died last year.
Alexander Bennett’s comedy has been variously described as dark, silly, filthy and thoughtful. He is the co-host, along with comedian Andy Barr, and creator of the high concept Chortle Award nominated podcast Born Yesterday, which has had guests including Phil Wang, Jordan Gray and John Kearns. He has performed his shows on the West End at London's prestigious Soho Theatre. His current tour show was recommended by the British Comedy Guide and had a joke featured in The Times' top jokes of the Edinburgh Fringe. His work has been nominated as part of the Leicester Comedy Festival Awards. He’s recently been featured in The Guardian and heard on 5 Live.
Alexander is the creator of the cult comedy game show Hell To Play, he was a key player in Mark Watson’s Comedy Marathon and regularly works with the acclaimed Alternative Comedy Memorial Society and Weirdos collectives. Alexander is also a filmmaker and director, and has been a guest lecturer at the Royal College of Art and Fourth Monkey Theatre Company. He recently wrote for the iPaper and the Metro.
