Monkey Barrel Comedy Announces First Batch of Edinburgh Fringe Shows

Following another hugely successful Fringe programme last year, which included both the Edinburgh Comedy Awards ‘Best Show’ and ‘Best Newcomer’ winners, Monkey Barrel Comedy presents a selection of the most exciting and highly anticipated shows of 2025.

As well as welcoming back Monkey Barrel favourites, this year’s line-up includes many notable additions, with a stellar mix of established names and rising stars.

The 2025 programme continues to showcase outstanding local talent, including Sir Billy Connolly Award winner Rosco McClelland, and the hosts of Some Laugh: Marc Jennings, Stephen Buchanan, and Stuart McPherson. Local favourites, and year-round Monkey Barrel regulars, including Liam Withnail, Christopher Macarthur-Boyd, Krystal Evans, Tamsyn Kelly, and Sam Lake - host of the Monkey Barrel Comedy produced podcast I’ve Had a Rose, Let’s Talk About Feelings - also feature.

The programme features a number of returning MBC favourites such as Pierre Novellie, Vittorio Angelone, Helen Bauer, Olga Koch, and 2024 ‘Best Show’ nominees Josh Glanc and Chris Cantrill. Meanwhile Gianmarco Soresi, Mike Rice, Diona Doherty, Laura Lexx, Jena Friedman, and Sindhu Vee, are among the newcomers to Monkey Barrel’s Fringe roster. The line-up also includes the winners of ‘Best Newcomer’ in 2024 and 2023, respectively, Joe Kent-Walters and Urooj Ashfaq.

Late-night shows remain a key feature of the Monkey Barrel programme, with cult regulars The Alternative Comedy Memorial Society (ACMS) returning to lead the charge. More additions to the popular programme of after-hours pandemonium will be announced in May.

With a programme featuring critically acclaimed acts such as Best Show winner Ahir Shah, Alison Spittle, Celya AB, Desiree Burch, Jamali Maddix, Janine Harouni, Stevie Martin, Sindhu Vee, Stuart Goldsmith, and many more, it’s set to be another stellar Fringe for the multi-award-winning Edinburgh comedy club.

Monkey Barrel Comedy’s first release includes more than 60 shows across 9 venues. Expanding its footprint for 2025, Monkey Barrel is delighted to be adding two spaces at iconic music venue Cabaret Voltaire, in addition to the seven rooms it ran in 2024 (MB1, MB2, MB3, MB4, Hive 1, Hive 2, The Tron).
