Yesterday I published this substack column speculating on who I'd like to see in a second season of Last One Laughing UK - if and when a second season of the hit comedy is made. Of all the pieces I've written this garnered the biggest response by far. Some people agreeing with my choices but most suggesting different names that they would love to see on the show.
Purely for fun and utterly unscientific I've totted up the suggestions. There were 76 different names mentioned. I've whittled them down to the top ten here to put together a readers' dream team. It was suggested that my list had a lot of over-fifties comics, which maybe suggests my own bias, but I'd also suggest that the biggest names in comedy are often - though obviously not always so please don't nitpick – the more established-over-the-years names. Interestingly readers have suggested a similar number of older acts - though maybe it's just that a lot of my readers are the same age as me...
There were also some interesting curveballs thrown up. Someone suggested Bob Mortimer should return until he is defeated. Someone else with a distinctly dark sense of humour suggested Sean Lock, though they did acknowledge he would have an advantage in the not-laughing-stakes. Inevitably quite a few people suggested comics who have appeared on Taskmaster, which I tried to steer clear of, though when there were a lot of votes I couldn't ignore them.
Anyway, here is the top ten according the my readers...though of course you might disagree. If a significant number of new votes/names come in I might update this.
Jack Dee (yes, I know he's recently been on Taskmaster, but he got the most namechecks)
Harry Hill
Frank Skinner
Diane Morgan
Nick Helm
Brian Conley
Gina Yashere
Dawn French
Zoe Lyons
John Kearns
Plus super-sub in case someone drops out – Tim Key
And Lucy Porter commenting alongside Jimmy Carr
