The classic comedy The Comic Strip Presents is to be celebrated at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer with special screenings and Q&As with the stars.
The news was exclusively revealed in the Standard today in an article featuring an interview with the lynchpin Peter Richardson (pictured). Read the full article here. It will be Richardson's first time in Edinburgh for 44 years. Back then he was just breaking through as part of the alternative comedy vanguard alongside Rik Mayall, Ade Edmondson, Nigel Planer, Alexei Sayle, Arnold Brown, Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders and Keith Allen.
In each of the five 150-minute shows at Just the Tonic's Nucleus venue, two episodes will be screened and then one of the stars of the episodes will be interviewed alongside Richardson by long-time fan Robin Ince.
So far confirmed is Alexei Sayle who will take part in the first two shows on August 2 & 3. The other shows are on August 8 - 10.
‘The Comic Strip Presents… Live at the Fringe’ offers fans old and new a chance to revisit the films that made them laugh, gasp, and occasionally write angry letters to Channel 4. With never-before-heard behind-the-scenes stories, rotating special guests, and a legacy that’s still shaping the comedy landscape today – this is a must-see event for anyone who cares about where British comedy came from, and where it might be going.
Robin Ince is a comedian, author, broadcaster and co-host of the Sony Gold Award-winning The Infinite Monkey Cage with Professor Brian Cox. He is also co-creator of The Cosmic Shambles Network and the host of several acclaimed podcasts and live events blending science, comedy and curiosity. He has toured globally and authored five books.
