
Comedian Stephen Buchanan’s short film The Dead Don’t Care has been nominated for a Scottish RTS Award in the Short Form Category.
The short film is about Eden, a psychic who brings closure to the grieving by channelling their weird dead relatives. It was created by Buchanan and stars an array of Scottish comedy talent.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be nominated for an RTS award. It was such a fun experience and the whole team were a dream to work with," says Buchanan.
The film which was produced by Ewan Denny & Ryan Meloy for Belter Studios & Bandicoot Scotland. It was directed by Niamh McKeon (BBC’s Dinosaur) and also starred Mark Dallas, Louise Stewart, Darren Connell, Stuart McPherson.
The film was commissioned by Channel 4 as part of their inaugural Playgrounds scheme to give new talent the opportunity to experiment within a shorter format, with an emphasis on creative freedom, it was their first Playground film!
In addition to The Dead Don’t Care, last year the BBC commissioned his short ‘Cable Tied’, which he also starred in and was featured at the London Film Festival last year. And his pilot, also commissioned by the BBC, was filmed earlier this year.
Buchanan was crowned the first Scottish winner of the BBC Comedy Awards and was also previous won the Scottish Comedian of the Year. He is also the co-host of the hit podcast ‘Some Laugh’.
Stephen will also be at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer with a new show Cold Meat at the Monkey Barrel, 4:20pm and you can buy tickets
In the RTS comedy category the nominees are Dinosaur, Only Child and Stevens & McCarthy.
the winners will be announced on June 6.
