News: Radio Series For John Moloney

John Moloney

John Moloney, award-winning comedian and co-producer of London’s annual Balham Comedy Festival, will make his Radio 4 programme debut in May with The John Moloney Show.  The four-part series, recorded in front of a live audience at The Stand in Edinburgh, is produced by Dabster Productions.  The first programme will be broadcast on Tuesday, 12th May at 11pm.

Discussing the project Richard says “working with John has been a total pleasure.  He’s the godfather of the UK comedy scene.  Watching him work is like watching a masterclass unfold.  He’s like a conductor and the audience is his orchestra. I can’t wait for Radio 4’s listeners to hear this show. They’re going to love it.”

The show also features performances from Julia Sutherland, Fred MacAulay and Gareth Waugh

John Moloney knew he wanted to be a stand up from the age of 14, having seen the likes of Dave Allen and Les Dawson as a child and started out on the comedy circuit when he was 20.   Following a brief flirtation with the education system teaching German, John still employs his linguistic skills when he performs in Hamburg and Berlin.

With strong Irish roots – John’s father hailed from Tipperary and his mother from Kerry – Moloney is also an accomplished traditional musician, having won the All Ireland Fleadh when he was 14. In 2012 he launched the first Balham Comedy Festival with Banana Cabaret’s Dave Vickers and the pair continue to produce one of the capital’s best comedy events, giving audiences the chance to see top comedy names in the comfortable and intimate surroundings of Balham’s Bedford pub.
