A lycra-clad guru. A hostage crisis. A bum bag that defies physics...
Downward Dog Day Afternoon follows Kevin — an unhinged “Extreme Yoga” instructor in psychedelic lycra — whose quest for transcendence spirals out of control when he demands his class climb inside his oversized bum bag. When they refuse, he pulls a machine gun. Cue: a standoff, coconut water, and a hostage negotiator with a beard and a bullhorn.
The film stars acclaimed comedians Mark Davison and Toby Williams, and blends gritty action tropes with surreal comedy, taking inspiration from Die Hard, Garth Marenghi, and The Naked Gun. With just 25 days left to reach its target, the team are calling on fans of offbeat comedy and independent cinema to get involved.
A low-budget film with big-screen ambition
Funds raised through the crowdfunder will go toward hiring a professional crew, securing a real yoga studio location, vibrant set and costume design, anamorphic lenses for that cinematic punch, and a firearms supervisor, vehicle props and stunt-safe choreography to give the mayhem real muscle.
“Downward Dog Day Afternoon is a completely bonkers take on the classic heist movie,” said Jonathan Brooks, writer/director.
“It’s got glitter, guns, coconut water, and a yoga guru demanding transcendence at gunpoint. We’re offering all sorts of ridiculous rewards — from personalised ‘Extreme Yoga’ videos to having your name chanted in Kevin’s private sunrise ritual. Every bit of support helps us push this madness to the next level.”
Get in the bag — or get involved
