To mark the 100th birthday of the legendary actor and comedian Peter Sellers, Heard Plus and AUK Studios are proud to announce Blue Peter — a darkly comic audio drama chronicling conversations between Rula Lenska and the bright blue bust of Sellers’ head.

The year is 2020, and actress Rula Lenska is raging against the dying of the light.

Or, at any rate, fighting boredom and a rising Covid fever with cups of tea and increasingly sarcastic calls to her agent.

It would all be made so much easier if the blue bust of former co-star Peter Sellers’ head didn’t have quite so much to say.

And wasn’t so keen on dredging up the past.

Isolation meets hallucination in this hectic half-hour audio play, inspired by the unique ornament found in Rula Lenska’s home. “I own the sculpture of Peter’s head, decorated by me,” says the actor. “It’s always a talking point.”

Having spotted his eventual co-star posing with Sellers’ bust online, Barnaby Eaton-Jones was inspired. “I wonder what would happen if that head could talk to her?” was enough for him to pitch the idea, first to Rula Lenska and then to longtime collaborator Kenton Hall: “I always open Barnaby’s messages expecting delightfully mad ideas, and I am never disappointed. Imagine my sheer glee when I received his treatment for ‘Blue Peter’.”

Rula Lenska had an enduring friendship with Peter Sellers, having starred in her first film alongside him. “I am very proud to have known Peter and to have been part of this special project,” she says. “He was unique and brilliant... a genuine legend”.

Blue Peter will be released later this year exclusively on Heard Plus — an all-new streaming service dedicated to audio productions.
