The broadcast details of the radio version of Scott Bennett's acclaimed show Blood Sugar Baby have been confirmed. It will be broadcast on Radio 4 on Wednesday, November 5 at 6.30pm.
Blood Sugar Baby tells the true story of Scott and Jemma Bennett’s infant daughter Olivia and her battle with a rare genetic condition, how she was nearly fatally misdiagnosed and how Scott challenged the hospital to improve their care by taking his dad’s advice to “Put a tie on”.
First-time parents Scott and Jemma are taken from the apparently idyllic world of having a newborn baby who sleeps through the night and suddenly plunged into months of misguided treatments, genetics, bizarre side effects and private jets.
Recorded In Nottingham where the story took place, this is an emotional show about a critically ill baby but it’s also a really funny one with a happy and hopeful ending.
In telling this story Scott has had the opportunity to increase awareness about Congenital Hyperinsulinism (CHI), and the important work the NHS and the Congenital Hyperinsulinism International charity are doing. For more information https://congenitalhi.org/
Scott and Jemma Bennett said: "Thank you to Radio 4. It's been a privilege to be able to share our family story, and we hope that it gives families in a similar situation some comfort and a sense of community”
Scott Bennett is also currently on tour with the original show. Dates here.
