Comedian Iain Stirling bares all in a brand-new Comic Relief original comedy series, from how his first paid gig went to how he nearly missed out on Love Island, in a new format.
The comedian opens up in the first instalment of Comic Confessions, available now on YouTube. The new series will see a host of well-known faces answer revealing questions about their career, love lives, relationships, most embarrassing moments, and much more.
The episode marks the charity’s first original content release of the year, as it ramps up investment in digital-first comedy, entertainment and factual storytelling content produced in-house for YouTube. Further episodes of Comic Confessions are in production alongside a growing slate of new formats, with a range of comedy shorts, live streams and collaborations in development.
Tom Connaughton, newly appointed Chief Creative Officer at Comic Relief, said: “We’re significantly expanding our original comedy and entertainment output this year and have some exciting new formats already in production. As media habits continue to evolve, our YouTube channel presents a huge opportunity to engage younger and more diverse audiences with a combination of long, short and live form content all within the one ecosystem that our flagship campaigns, Red Nose Day and Sport Relief, may not always reach.
“Comedy is part of our DNA - it’s how we were founded, how we connect people, and how we inspire care, empathy and generosity towards others. Alongside entertainment, we’ll also be using this channel to spotlight the work we fund, experimenting with fresh approaches to factual storytelling and documentary-style content to educate on the pressing issues donations tackle.”
Tom added: “While entertainment and pop culture are central to who we are, historically our content output has been concentrated around a few key campaign moments each year. With a refreshed channel strategy, ambitious plans and a strong line up of famous faces on board, we are excited to see how new long and short form content resonates and how we can scale success over time.”
A mix of regular features and special one-offs will be released monthly throughout the year, with a jam-packed schedule of new content confirmed for Red Nose Day, which returns on Friday 20 March.
