Funny Women Take Over The Comedy Store For First Ever Live Comedy Day

Today is the first ever Live Comedy Day, a celebration of one of the things that makes Britain Great. Gigs across the UK will be staged to mark the occasion and throughout the day BTJ will be offering recommendations. You can check out more about the day and what's happening in your area here, but below is our first pick. And it's a big one.

Funny Women is staging a powerhouse takeover of the Comedy Store London to headline the first-ever national Live Comedy Day.

While the rest of the country is playing pranks, Funny Women is delivering a bumper showcase of the UK’s best female-identifying comedy talent. This landmark event supports the Live Comedy Association’s initiative to highlight the importance, diversity, and creativity of the grassroots comedy scene.

The Powerhouse Line-Up

The night features an electric mix of established icons and the brightest rising stars, spanning stand-up, sketch, character, and musical comedy:

From musical comedy to biting satire, this "bumper" bill showcases the full spectrum of female-identifying excellence:

  • Shaparak Khorsandi (Host): The celebrated author and Live at the Apollo star brings her effortless warmth and razor-sharp wit to lead the night’s festivities.
  • Grace Campbell: The outspoken, "wildly funny" (The Guardian) stand-up known for her fiery social commentary and unfiltered storytelling.
  • Barbara Nice: The North’s favourite housewife and Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist, providing feel-good, interactive comedy that brings the house down.
  • Siblings: The hyper-energetic character comedy duo (Maddy and Marina Bye) bringing their surreal, physical, and critically acclaimed "clown-adjacent" chaos.
  • ‘Zoe’ (Nicola Mantilios): The reigning Funny Women Stage Award winner, performing as her hilariously intense and unmistakable character creation.
  • Madeleine Brettingham & Maple Zuo: Showcasing the future of the circuit, these 2025 Award finalists bring fresh perspectives on everything from domestic life to global identity.
  • Sian Davies & Suzy Bennett: A masterclass in storytelling; Davies (Best Debut Show winner, Edinburgh) and Bennett (former Funny Women Award winner) represent the very best of the UK’s regional comedy strength.
  • Spring Day: Day offers dark, dry American wit.
  • Ivy Paige: Bringing variety to the stage, the "Velvet Iron Fist"—blends cabaret, song, and sass.

A Sketch Sensation: Gobby Girls

In a special partnership, the night will include a showcase of sketches from the all-female sensation Gobby Girls. Following two sold-out runs of Gobby Girls: The After Party at the Edinburgh Fringe and Soho Theatre, the group is performing at Funny Women Live on Live Comedy Day before kicking off a run at Soho Theatre.

"It is only fitting that Funny Women, as a leading non-profit comedy community, showcases the best on the circuit for the first-ever Live Comedy Day."
