Interview: Rarely Asked Questions: Riki Lindhome

Actress, comedian and songwriter Riki Lindhome is currently at the Soho Theatre until April 18 with her show Dead Inside.

This a comedic one woman musical, a poignant mix of true stories and silly songs, delving into Riki’s unexpected and arduous fertility journey, offering a fresh perspective on a sensitive and still taboo topic. Infertility, while a common issue, remains largely unaddressed in mainstream conversation. Riki aims to break this silence, infusing her personal experiences with humour and candour.

With a career spanning 17 years, Riki is no stranger to the comedy or music scenes. As half of musical comedy duo Garfunkel and Oates she has toured the world, released two comedy specials, counts Michelle Obama as a fan, and has amassed over 100m hits on YouTube.

Her career also includes roles in acclaimed films such as "Knives Out" and "Under the Silverlake” and major hit shows "Wednesday”, “The Big Bang Theory”, “Brooklyn 99” and most recently “The Muppets Mayhem”.

Riki Lindholme will be performing Dead Inside at Soho Theatre until 18th April. Tickets available HERE.

1) What is the last thing you do before you go onstage (apart from check your flies and/or check your knickers aren't sticking out of your skirt and check for spinach between your teeth)?

I try to calm my nervous system and remind myself that this moment in the dressing room is actually the hardest part. Waiting backstage, getting nervous, is like when you are doing that slow climb at the beginning of a roller coaster but once you get going, it's fine.

2) What irritates you?

I hate when people put a "k" sound at the end of "ing" words. This is probably an American thing, but some people do that constantly. Instead of "going" it's "go-ink." I wait for that "k" and it drives me nuts.

3) What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done?

When I was in high school, I would ride in the back of people's pickup trucks while my 16-year-old friend was driving. We had dirt roads, icy roads, you name it and I'd be back there like it was totally safe.

4) What is the most stupid thing you have ever done?

It's more of a pattern than just one stupid thing. I tend to stay in things way too long. Jobs, relationships, any kind of situation. Even when I know it's not working, it's almost impossible for me to make a change unless things get really dire.

5) What has surprised you the most during your career in comedy?

How not competitive other comedians are. Everyone who is a professional is just trying to make their own material better, not focusing on what other people are doing. They also want to be surrounded by other funny people so if you are crushing your sets, that's the easiest way to be a part of the community.

Riki Lindholme will be performing Dead Inside at Soho Theatre until 18th April. Tickets available HERE.
