The BBC has released Literally! a brand new sketch series based on the GCSE English set texts - just in time for last minute exam revision.
Aimed at 15 -16 year olds, the series is an irreverent take on classic literature that sees Pride and Prejudice's Mrs Bennett on Diary of a CEO, Romeo and Juliet take a couple's quiz, and Ebeneezer Scrooge guide us through his iconic fashion looks. Inspired by Luke and Rosalie's unique life experience of "going to school", Literally is a digital series aiming to get students hooked on the books they'd rather just Google.
Created by comedians Rosalie Minnitt (Alan Partridge) and Luke Rollason (Extraordinary, Disney+) the series also features performances from Esmonde Cole (Mandy), Ed Jones (Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping), Ada Player (Mr Bigstuff), Anand Sankar, Temi Wilkey and social media star Adrian Bliss. Literally was directed and edited by Hudson Hughes.
Rosalie said: "Literacy levels are at an all time low so me and Luke decided to combine our last brain cell to save the children. We had a blast butchering the classics and can’t wait to see what the Daily Mail has to say."
Luke said: "I studied English Literature at the University of Oxford. You can't tell."
The series was produced by Leah Draws, Ben Rogers and Simon Welton for Lion TV - best known for the long-running and BAFTA award-winning sketch series Horrible Histories.
