The latest inductees to the North East Comedy Hall of Fame have been announced - ahead of a gala launch at Newcastle’s historic Tyne Theatre & Opera House this September billed as “Like If The Oscars Was A Laugh And Nobody Got Brayed.”
Joining previously announced inaugural inductees Sunday for Sammy, Stan Laurel, and Viz creators Simon Donald and Chris Donald organisers comedy co-operative Felt Nowt have today revealed the next set of comedy legends added to the ledger of the region’s most important acts.
They are:
-
Mark Sheridan: From the docks of Hendon to the heights of music hall fame, Sheridan became a national sensation and turned I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside into an enduring classic.
-
Anvil Springsteen: With a life as wild as his act and a titan of the early alternative comedy scene, Springsteen toured the world as a stand‑up after an early career as The Human Anvil — lying on Northumberland Street while his brother smashed paving slabs on his chest with a sledgehammer.
-
Brendan Healy: Ten years on from his passing, the Hall of Fame honours one of Tyneside’s most beloved entertainers. Healy wrote, produced and starred in the Tyne Theatre panto, appeared across TV, performed with Lindisfarne, and even co‑wrote a musical with AC/DC’s Brian Johnson.
-
Lauren Pattison: Starting stand‑up at 18, Pattison has already earned two Edinburgh Comedy Award nominations — Best Newcomer (2017) and Best Show (2022).
-
Lost Voice Guy: Lee Ridley went from journalist to national treasure, winning the BBC New Comedy Award in 2014 before capturing the nation’s heart — and the Britain’s Got Talent crown — in 2018.
The North East Comedy Hall of Fame is being developed by Felt Nowt, the non-profit co-operative run by local comedians.
The event takes place on September 10th at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House, with further announcements to take place for the show’s hosts, the live band, the award categories, and plans for a permanent Hall of Fame building celebrating the region’s comedic heritage.
Felt Nowt director Jake Donaldson said: “The North East has produced some of the funniest, boldest and most inventive performers in the world. This night is about celebrating that legacy properly — with pride, with daftness, and with the full noise of a region that knows how to laugh.”
