New Book On How To Create A Stand Up Show

New Book On How To Make A Stand Up Show

Comedian and comedy director Lee Kyle has released ‘How To Make A Stand Up Show’, a book for existing comedians looking to turn their set into a show.

Kyle says that ‘How To Make A Stand Up Show’ is the only book that talks you through the creation of a festival show or stand up special.

If you want:

A stronger show

More confidence in it

A strong festival run

A cogent and hilarious special

A structured show

And a short cut through trial and error and bad previews, This book can help.

Drawing on over a decade and a half as a working comedian and show director, Kyle shares the methods, mistakes, and adaptations that have shaped his own career and the solo shows of many others.

Rather than offering generic motivation or rigid “rules”, the book focuses on how comedians can work with their own brains, instincts, and limitations instead of against them. It challenges commonly accepted wisdom around writing and structuring comedy shows, examining where rules are useful, where they fail, and how they can be bent or discarded altogether.

Available as a paperback (Postage to UK), Audiobook, pdf and Kindle edition. A free chapter can be downloaded from imleekyle.com

Lee has been a comedian since 2009 and full time since 2013, he is a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe and his last two solo shows have been taken to Newcastle’s Tyne Theatre.  He has directed shows by Chris Cantrill, Elaine Robertson, Sammy Dobson and many others.

He specialises in debut shows, and his ‘New Directions’ show, which takes place at The Stand Comedy Club in Newcastle every other month, has seen him work with the most promising acts in the North East to make their first ever hour long shows.

He says: “I’m very excited about this book, I really love working with other stand-ups to make their shows work. Living vicariously through their success gives me genuine joy. I love the moment when the mess of ideas becomes a show and I feel that this book can help others do that.”
