Nish Kumar is making a name for himself. Not just as a smart, stand-up comedian but as someone who comes up with titles that get his shows talked about. Last year’s Edinburgh show was Ruminations on the Nature of Subjectivity, this year’s show is Long Word... Long Word... Blah Blah Blah... I'm So Clever. These knowing, self-referential titles might put some people off but that operates as a useful filter, meaning that the people that come to his gigs will appreciate his slightly nerdy, slightly neurotic, slightly self-mocking, intelligent wit. Which is not to say that this Londoner doesn’t have mainstream appeal too. Like James Acaster Kumar could easily make the leap from cult to mainstream star. He is currently the host of Newsjack and I would imagine he will be the host of a few bigger things before the decade is out.
Nish Kumar is at the Pleasance from August 5 - 30, tickets here.
