Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Joe Lycett: Page 2 of 2
6. What do your parents/children (delete as applicable) think of your job?
My children don't think anything about it because they are dead/don't exist. My parents are very supportive despite the fact that I have constantly been pressuring them to get a proper job in show businesses instead of the nonsense they actually do as teachers and the like.
7. What’s the worst thing about being a comedian?
Trying to be funny the whole damn time.
8. I think you are very good at what you do (that’s why I’m asking these questions). What do you think of you?
Thank you! I think you are also very good at what I do! What do you do? I think I'm alright at it but I'll never properly get the hang of it.
9. How much do you earn and how much would you like to earn?
I earn literally thousands of pounds. It is fantastic. I would like to earn more thousands of pounds.
10. How important is luck in terms of career success – have you had lucky breaks?
All success is an intangible mix of luck, circumstance, hard work, intelligence, people skills and Twitter. I have succeed despite all of these things.
11. Alan Davies has said that comedians fall into two categories - golfers and self-harmers. The former just get on with life, the latter are tortured artists. Which are you – or do you think you fit into a third category?
I am a self-harming golfer.
12. Who is your favourite person ever and why - not including family or friends or other comedians?
I'm a big fan of Quentin Crisp.
13. Do you keep your drawers tidy?
Absolutely not.
