The QI Elves – the researchers behind BBC's hit comedy panel show QI – have signed to indie label Alcopop! Records to release the UK’s first ever vinyl podcast.
Each purchase will include not only an exclusive episode of the award winning podcast, No Such Thing As A Fish on 12” vinyl (listen out for the cameo from Slipknot frontman and QI fan Corey Taylor), but also access to the full first year of episodes. It will be released on 20th November and launched at the QI Elves' biggest live show to date at London's 1000 capacity West End Lyric Theatre – part of their UK-wide 2015-16 tour.
The 52 podcast episodes that accompany the vinyl feature appearances from the likes of Blackadder producer and QI creator, John Lloyd; Pixar and Saturday Night Live writer, Simon Rich; TV presenter, Victoria Coren Mitchell; Belgium's leading physicist comedian, Lieven Scheire; and Horrible Histories historian, Greg Jenner, to name a few.
Since launching in March 2014, No Such Thing As A Fish has been listened to more than 16 million times. The podcast won a 2015 Chortle comedy award, the iTunes Best Newcomer 2014 award and has completed sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe and London’s Soho Theatre.
Over the past 18 months, the QI Elves (Dan Schreiber, James Harkin, Andrew Hunter Murray and Anna Ptaszynski) have taken the British podcast world by storm. Each week they unleash a litany of the bizarre, the extraordinary and the hilarious upon their 700,000 subscribers.
The Elves have now teamed up with award-winning indie label Alcopop! Records – a label infamous for unconventional vinyl releases. Alcopop! grabbed headlines earlier this year after releasing a tongue-in-cheek silent 7” record named The Wit and Wisdom of Nigel Farage in the run up to the 2015 General Election.
Commenting on the forthcoming No Such Thing As A Fish vinyl release, Jack Clothier, MD of Alcopop! Records, said: “It's been such a joy to work with QI and the Elves on this release, and we're really excited to be the first to champion this new generation of podcast rockstars.
Anna Ptaszynski of the QI Elves added: "Just like when we created the podcast itself, the idea for this vinyl was conceived by a bunch of dorks - that's us - drinking beer in a pub. First it made us laugh, then it made us think, 'We have to do this.'
“We're so excited to have found our indie label soul mates in Alcopop! Records, who have allowed us to make it happen. We can't wait for our 'Best Album' nomination at the NME awards next year!"
