News: Emmy Wins For Veep & Team

Political satire Veep was one of the big winners at the Emmys last night.

The show won Outstanding comedy series, while it's star Julia Louis-Dreyfus won Outstanding lead actress in a comedy series and Tony Hale won Outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series. Brits Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci and Tony Roche won the prize for Outstanding writing for a comedy series.

Elsewhere Inside Amy Schumer won Outstanding Variety Sketch Series. Allison Janney of Mom won Outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series. 

Outstanding directing in a comedy series went to Jill Soloway for Transparent and Jeffrey Tambor won Outstanding lead actor in a comedy series for his performance in the same show. Bradley Whitford won  Outstanding guest actor in a comedy series for his role in Transparent. 

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart won Outstanding variety talk series. The show's writing team – Elliott Kalan, Adam Lowitt, Steve Bodow, Jon Stewart, Dan Amira, Travon Free, Hallie Haglund, Matt Koff, Dan McCoy, Jo Miller, Zhubin Parang, Daniel Radosh, Lauren Sarver, Owen Parsons and Delaney Yeager – won Outstanding writing on a variety series and director Chuck O'Neil picked up best director in the category.

The Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special won Outstanding variety special and director Don Roy King won best directing for the show too.

Outstanding writing for a variety special went to Louis CK for Louis CK: Live At The Comedy Store.

For once Ricky Gervais failed to win an award, though he was nominated for Outstanding lead actor in a limited series or a movie, for his role in Derek: The Final Chapter.
