Following earlier reports that actor Jack Black had died, it has been confirmed that he is still alive.

The news broke via the Twitter account of his musical comedy duo Tenacious D. Earlier today it tweeted: "I'm sad to officially annouce the death of Jack Black at the age of 46, rest in peace brother." And then: "It is with a heavy heart I am to announce that Jack Black passed away last night at 3:37am. The cause of death is yet unknown." 

As the news started to trend, the following tweet was posted from the same account: "Calm down guys! It's just a prank bro, look there's the camera..." and "The Legend is still alive, it is ok guys :)."

It is believed that the Tenacious D Twitter account was hacked. This was confirmed later in the day when the Tenacious D account posted the following: "WE had our Twitter account hacked. We can assure you that Jack is ALIVE and WELL and that this was a sick "prank"."
