Jimmy Carr is to host a special edition of Horizon exploring the science of laughter and comedy.

Carr and guests will try to discover what laughter is, why we love doing it so much and why we associate laughter with being amused.

Carr has written about the subject in the past. He is the co-author of The Naked Jape: Uncovering the Hidden World of Jokes, which was published in 2006.

Carr is currently travelling around the world on his Funny business tour. He recently played Belgium and tweeted: "I have a carbon footprint like a Wookie."
