
BBC Two has confirmed the re-commission of the critically acclaimed sitcom Mum by Stefan Golaszewski.
The comedy series produced by Big Talk will return for a second series to shoot next year. The final episode of the current series aired tonight on BBC2.
Starring Olivier Award winner and BAFTA nominated actress Lesley Manville, Mum is a family sitcom seen through the eyes of Cathy (Manville). Series one followed a in her life as she moves on from the death of her husband. Starting with the family gathering for the funeral in January and ending on New Year’s Eve, viewers saw Cathy and her family go through the major and minor events of the year. It’s the story of a woman finding who she is again and maybe finding love second time around.
The series, which has been described as a ‘subtle masterpiece’ by The Times, also stars Peter Mullan, Sam Swainsbury, Lisa McGrillis, Ross Boatman, Dorothy Atkinson, Marlene Sidaway and Karl Johnson.
The comedy reunited the creative team behind the BAFTA award-winning sitcom for BBC Three Him and Her including writer/executive producer, Stefan Golaszewski; director, Richard Laxton; producer, Lyndsay Robinson and executive producer, Kenton Allen.
