Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Steve Bugeja
Steve Bugeja won the BBC New Comedy Award in 2013 with a strikingly nerdy high energy set. Despite his ongoing success he is as neurotic as ever, which is handy as it is one of the many things that makes him so funny. In his new show Unpronounceable Bugeja airs his various angsty concerns and in particlar his frustration that people tend to pronounce his surname wrong. Steve, I feel your pain. But don't worry, when you are a household name people will know how to say it.

1. What is the last thing you do before you go onstage (apart from check your flies and/or check your knickers aren't sticking out of your skirt and check for spinach between your teeth )?
I have an irrational fear that my mouth will go completely dry as soon as I get to the microphone, so I always take a sip of water before I walk up.
Empty water bottles. Now this is a really irrational fear. In fact it's more than irritating, they actually terrify me. Only the empty ones. If it has some water in it then it's fine. If someone threw an empty bottle at me on stage then I would probably squeal.
3. What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done?
Decided not to get a proper job and gone into full time stand up comedy. Dangerous indeed.

5. What has surprised you the most during your career in comedy?
How nice most people are. It's such a competitive industry and we're all basically going up against each other all the time. It's a miracle that comedians are able to be friends with each other.
