The Raisin, the short comedy drama film written and directed by award-winning comedian Rob Carter, will have a World Premiere at the LA Comedy Festival on 5 May 2017 in Los Angeles.
The film has been accepted into the Cannes Film Festival Court Métrage (Short Film Corner) and will be available in the digital library as well as screening booths during the Cannes Film Festival in May. The Raisin has also been selected as part of the Cannes Programming Block where after hundreds of submissions, the best 30 films were selected
The film is a rural romance centred around the story of one raisin. This is the debut film from Rob Carter and looks at the effect loneliness can have on a person when they are finally met with the opportunity for companionship. It stars Trevor Allan Davies (Game of Thrones, Kick Ass 2) and BAFTA-nominated Helen Ryan.
Rob Carter said, “The inspiration for this film came when I was on crutches, 3 months after a road accident, hobbling into my living room with my dinner spilling in a plastic bag swinging from each crutch, and I’m delighted to see that it’s now being enjoyed by people outside my living room as well.”
Sara Shulman, who produced the short film with Tom Holloway, said: “The Raisin is a beautiful film and we are so pleased that it has entertained and received support from the international film festival community.”
