6. What do your parents/children (delete as applicable) think of your job?
He gets it. My son is 6 now so he gets that I have shows to do most nights and he has seen me on the telly. He knows I write jokes and interview people to make the family money. That's normality to him.
7. What’s the worst thing about being a comedian?
Probably the stress. It's a very stressful existence. You can't plan really. You can never relax. I'm always worried. On stage is your time off. That's the fun bit. When people say you work 20 minutes a day they don't get that that was our tea break!
8. I think you are very good at what you do (that’s why I’m asking these questions). What do you think of you?
I am Irish I will never admit that I am good at a thing even if I'm being handed the award for best person in the world at that thing. I'm trying to be better. I'm a lot better than I was. How about that?
9. How much do you earn and how much would you like to earn?
The most taboo question in comedy. How many joke answers do you get to this question? (editor's note - Alfie Brown gave the best answer)
10. How important is luck in terms of career success – have you had lucky breaks?
I love that quote "luck is what happens when hard work and opportunity meet". All the lucky people I know work their arses off. I believe in luck 100%. Don't believe in fate. The ball bounces your way if you throw the ball enough times. Poxy is an Irish term for something that is a freak occurrence. Like Stavros Flatley! That stuff can't last.
11. Alan Davies has said that comedians fall into two categories - golfers and self-harmers. The former just get on with life, the latter are tortured artists. Which are you – or do you think you fit into a third category?
I love Alan Davis. He is dead right on this. I am a self-harmer who wears the clothes of a golfer. I give the impression I'm coasting along enjoying this life but God almighty do beat myself up. I'm working on it but it's a nightmare most of the time.
12. Who is your favourite person ever and why – not including family or friends or other comedians?
I'm a big Bob Geldof advocate. What he's done, what he's been through, how little of fuck he gives, how much of a fuck he gives, how much he speaks his mind and creatively - The man can write. He and I had a dinner together when I was 22 years old and it changed my life. He taught me to stop saying "why him?" and start asking "why not me?".
13. Do you keep your drawers tidy and if not why not? (please think long and hard about this question, it's to settle an argument with my girlfriend. The future of our relationship could depend on your response).
Tidy then all over the place. Then tidy again. Then back to chaos. That's how tidying works in my mind. Reap and sow.
