News: Jongleurs Closes

Jongleurs' comedy clubs appear to have closed.

A message was sent out this afternoon saying that as of today Roving Ventures Ltd (the licensee of Jongleurs Comedy) is to suspend operations.

More details to follow but this has major ramifications for comedians who had been booked to perform at the various Jongleurs clubs around the country and Jongleurs On The Road too. There is also the issue of where comedians stand regarding outstanding payments. An administrator is to be appointed.

The message to comedians and agents goes on to say that "if you have any bookings for the rest of 2017, and a couple of people have dates in 2018, we're really sorry but these won't be happening."

There had been cash injections to keep the company viable but, it was said, there were no more funds.

Jongleurs was one of the first alternative comedy clubs, starting out with a single branch in Clapham in the early 1980s. Almost every household name probably played there on their way up, from Alan Davies to Harry Hill and many more. The company had expanded with branches all over the country but had also changed hands a number of times in recent years.

The website jongleurs.com currently says "no upcoming shows found! Must be on a break"...
