Jason Manford is to launch another branch of his comedy club chain at a new venue in south west London.

The club will open in 2018. Manford said: ‘We’re delighted to be bringing the Manford Comedy Club to London for the first time."

The Exchange in Twickenham is a £5 million new build venue with state of the art facilities, a 300-seat theatre, six studio rooms, large conservatory area and café-bar. It is situated opposite Twickenham railway station and is set to provide a welcome cultural addition to the area.

The theatre space will provide a valuable resource for local people and attract visitors from further afield with its programme of theatre, music, talks and events. The six studios and the theatre are available for hire by community groups, organisations, businesses and individuals for everything from classes, courses and meetings to conferences and parties. Young people’s performing arts classes, after-school clubs and adult well-being classes are amongst the activities in the planning stage. There is also a large conservatory area and a café-bar that is open daily where meals are served and a theatre bar on event nights.

This new home for the arts in Twickenham is situated within the residential Brewery Wharf development on the site formerly occupied by the Royal Mail sorting office. It is the fruit of a new partnership between The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, the site owners, and St Mary’s University who will operate the venue.

‘This is the next stage in the council’s multi-million pound plan to improve and enhance Twickenham’ said Cllr Paul Hodgins, Leader of the Council. ‘The partnership with St Mary’s will bring immeasurable benefit to both the people of Richmond and Twickenham and students at the university.’

Also included in the launch season is a Q & A with artist Jeremy Deller, talks by author, broadcaster and journalist Gary Younge and Germaine Greer. Music includes radical folk musician Nancy Kerr and singer songwriter Chris Wood.

The Exchange is also hosting talks by historian David Starkey and physicist Helen Czerski, as well as a solo performance by actor Ian Hughes, all as part of the Richmond Literature Festival. There are modern film screening facilities with Twickenham Cinema Club confirmed as an early user and regular ‘rep’ showings planned for the near future.

Comedy includes Shazia Mirza’s current hit With Love From St Tropez.

The opening of the venue has been welcomed by Amy Lamé, Night Czar for London ‘The Mayor and I have made developing the night-time economy a top priority so I’m delighted that this new arts centre is opening in Twickenham. Great venues and theatre spaces are vital to a thriving night-time economy and culture. Good luck to The Exchange!’

‘I would like to thank the London Borough of Richmond for entrusting St Mary’s University with the stewardship of The Exchange’ said Prof Francis Campbell, Vice-Chancellor of St Mary’s. ‘We aim to present an entertaining and thought-provoking programme of events and to offer a welcoming cultural space to people from the borough and beyond’.
