News: Ben Miller, Lily Cole and Kenneth Branagh Join Upstart Crow Crew

Lily Cole, Kenneth Branagh and others are set to appear in Upstart Crow, which has just started filming and will return later this year.

Branagh will play a mysterious stranger and Lily Cole will play Ephie in next year's Christmas special. Also appearing in the series are Adrian Edmondson (Bottom), Montserat Lombard (Inside No. 9) Nigel Planer (The Young Ones), Beattie Edmondson (Josh), and Ben Miller (Armstrong and Miller).

Plots include a new production of Julius Caesar, a mischievous puckish sprite with a magic love potion, prejudice that forestalls Will's writing of The Merchant of Venice and the world’s first charity fund raising benefit - Inflated Pig’s Bladder Day.

The regular cast all returns, with David Mitchell again as Shakespeare. Harry Enfield (Harry & Paul) is Will’s father, Paula Wilcox (Mount Pleasant) is Will’s mother, Liza Tarbuck (Linda Green) is Will’s wife Anne, Helen Monks (Raised By Wolves) is their daughter Susanna. Plus Gemma Whelan (Game Of Thrones) as Kate; Rob Rouse (Grownups) as Bottom; Mark Heap (Friday Night Dinner) as Will’s nemesis Robert Greene; Dominic Coleman (Peaky Blinders) as Condell; Steve Speirs (Big School) as Burbage; Jocelyn Jee Esien (Little Miss Jocelyn) as Lucy; Tim Downie (Toast) as Kit Marlowe and Spencer Jones (Mister Winner) as Kempe.

Ben Elton says: “With incredible names like Ben Miller, Lily Cole and Kenneth Branagh all making guest appearances, the third series of Upstart Crow really is going to be a truly star-crossed show.”
