The Wells Comedy Festival – which takes over England’s smallest city for a ‘weekend-long stand-up jamboree’ (The Guardian) – has just announced its next batch of shows.
Lots more exciting additions have joined the already packed bill, including Welsh powerhouse Rhod Gilbert, the godfather of alternative comedy Alexei Sayle, host of BBC Two’s ‘The Mash Report’ Nish Kumar, ‘Newsjack’ host Angela Barnes, ’Harry Potter’ actress Jessie Cave, Edinburgh Comedy Award-winner Adam Riches, acclaimed wordsmith Scroobius Pip with his Distraction Pieces Podcast and ‘Soccer AM’ presenter Lloyd Griffith.
Other new shows include Bristolian hero Jayde Adams, ‘Live at the Apollo’ star Jen Brister, stand-up poet Rob Auton and Wells favourite Jarred Christmas with both a solo stand-up hour and a children’s show, ‘The Mighty Kids Beatbox Gameshow’. Plus, as is now Wells Comedy Festival tradition, the Comedians Cinema Club will be closing out the festival with their live, chaotic, alcohol-fuelled reinterpretation of Wells’s very own ‘Hot Fuzz’.
They all join the previously announced James Acaster, Limmy (pictured), Sara Pascoe, Tim Key, Mark Watson, Richard Herring, Hal Cruttenden, Desiree Burch, Paul Foot, Dane Baptiste, Tony Law and many more.
Tickets for the 2018 festival are selling fast, with many shows already sold out. Extra shows have just been added for James Acaster, Mark Watson, Richard Herring, Dane Baptiste and Tony Law.
Ben Williams, founder and producer of the festival, said: ‘This is another huge year for the Wells Comedy Festival, nearly doubling in size compared to 2017. I couldn’t be happier with the new additions to the lineup. It’s shaping up to be the best year yet.’
Tim Lethaby, editor of the Wells Journal – the festival’s official media partner – said: ‘I am delighted that the Wells Journal will again be the official media partner of the Wells Comedy Festival. Last year’s line-up was great, but the comedians coming this year will take the event to another level. There really is comedy for everyone, even people with a terrible sense of humour, like me. At the Wells Journal, we look forward to supporting the festival and helping it raise the profile of the city.’
The Wells Comedy Festival runs from May 25 - 27. Tickets are on sale now here.
