Legendary comedy writer Neil Shand has died. He was 84.
Shand worked regularly with Spike Milliigan for many years, contributing to TV series including his groundbreaking Q series.
In a long career he also wrote for other major names including David Frost, Kenny Everett, Bob Monkhouse, Mike Yarwood and Larry Grayson.
Comedy historian Louis Barfe interviewed Shand onstage on 2017. He tweeted: "They say never meet your heroes. Well, that's bollocks. Last year, at the behest of @davelee1968 and @Glanfordparker, I went up to Hull to interview the comedy writing legend Neil Shand on stage. Neil's frail state did not, could not, temper his laser beam charisma and wit."
By coincidence Spike Milligan would have been 100 today (Monday). Buy his programme Q, which Neil Shand worked on, here.
