Damned, the Channel 4 sitcom set in the world of social work, has not been recommissioned.
David Baddiel, who is the partner of Morwenna Banks, who co-created the show with Jo Brand and co-wrote it with Brand and Will Smith and also played Ingrid, broke the news on Twitter, writing: "Sadly just heard @Channel4 have decided not to commission another series of the brilliant Damned. This is despite the last series getting across-the-board five star reviews. Slightly baffled."
Co-writer Will Smith also expressed disappointment on Twitter: "Well I like to think we set things nicely up for a third series - Denise under investigation and Al now in charge having spent all of series 2 trying to leave."
The first two series had been well-received and had been building up a loyal following. The cast was very strong, including, alongside Banks co-writer Jo Brand, Alan Davies, Kevin Eldon, Himesh Patel, Georgie Glen, Nick Hancock and Isy Suttie. Lolly Adefope made an impact in the second series as political correct student Mimi.
