Tributes have been paid to comedian Sean Rouse, whose death was announced at the weekend. Reports say he had a stroke followed by a heart attack. He was 43.
The uncompromising Texan comic worked frequently with Doug Stanhope. In 2006 he was part of a package called The Unbookables that played at the Edinburgh Fringe. At the time The Scotsman wrote of him: "To call Rouse's humour dark is a bit like calling Charles Manson prone to antisocial behaviour." I was at one of those shows at The Tron. It remains one of the most edgy, un-PC shows I've ever seen in Edinburgh.
Glenn Wool wrote on Facebook: "if you never saw him do stand up you have missed a master. fearlessly taking on audiences while drinking enough to subdue the pain of full body arthritis is not for the weak."
Jim Norton, who worked often with Rouse tweeted: "RIP SeanRouse. A dark, brilliantly funny comic."
Dave Attell wrote on Facebook: "Sean was my opener for years and years. But he was a better comic than i ever could be. He was so smart and fearless. Sean could care less if the crowd cheered or walked out. It was beautiful madness..i loved him like a brother and miss him beyond words."
British comic Matt Kirshen tweeted: "On Last Comic Standing we were sequestered in the hotel, 2 PAs sitting in the lobby to stop our escape. SeanRouse ordered pizza, then tipped the delivery guy $20 to borrow his uniform, and walked out dressed as him. RIP mate."
