The BBC New Comedy Award final has taken place at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, compered by Mark Watson.

Previous winners include Josie Long, Marcus Brigstocke, Alan Carr, Paul Foot, Nina Conti, Rhod Gilbert and more recently Angela Barnes, Lucy Beaumont, Lost Voice Guy, Steve Bugeja and Heidi Regan.

The judges this year were Commissioning Editor of Comedy at Radio 4 & Radio 4 Extra Sioned William and comedians Mark Steel and Rachel Parris. Sioned William said all six of the finalists were outstanding and would have a career in comedy. Mark Steel added "as long as they are dedicated and mad enough...that world is open to them."

And the winner is Scottish comedian Stephen Buchanan.

The other finalists were Helen Bauer, Isa Bonachera, Mamoun Elagab, Sarah Mann and William Stone.
