US comedian Bill Cosby has been sentenced to three to 10 years for sexual assault.

Cosby, who is 81, was also categorised as a sexually violent predator. This means he will have to undergo counselling for life and he will be listed on the sex offender registry.

The comedian was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault in April.

He was led away in handcuffs from the Pennsylvania courtroom and driven to Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

After sentencing Cosby's publicist Andrew Wyatt said: "Mr Cosby is doing great, and Mr Cosby knows that God is watching over him. He knows that these are lies...They persecuted Jesus and look what happened." He then added for clarification: "not saying Mr Cosby is Jesus."
