Ahead of his first night in a run of seven shows at The O2, Michael McIntyre was presented with a special award to celebrate his record breaking ticket sales at the venue. The record was previously held by Take That.
The comedian first performed at The O2 in 2009 and nine years later, marks his 28th headline performance, having sold over 409,238 tickets.
His latest residency is in addition to four headline shows in 2009, 10 in 2012 and seven in 2015, as well as Comedy Gala appearances.
Programming Director Emma Bownes said: “To have broken this record is a huge achievement and a testament to Michael McIntyre’s continued popularity with
fans. We had the pleasure of presenting him with the keys to The O2 in 2015 when he hit the magic 21 shows – a record first established by Prince in 2007 – and every show he’s done here has been brilliant. We’d like to thank and congratulate him and the team at Off The Kerb.”
