Netflix has confirmed that Steve Carell is to star in a new comedy for the streaming giant entitled "Space Force".

Carell, who co-created the series, will star and executive produce. He previously starred in the American version of The Office and will be working on the project with Greg Daniels, who adapted The Office for American television. Daniels is the co-creator of Space Force and will serve as showrunner and executive producer.

Howard Klein/3Arts (The Office (U.S.), The Mindy Project, Parks and Recreation) will also serve as executive producer.

A Netflix tweet explained that the series will be about the people tasked with creating a sixth branch of the armed services: the Space Force.
